The Office of Graduate Studies celebrated the accomplishments of 150 students who graduated from the advanced degree programs in an Investiture ceremony on Saturday, June 13, at Dartmouth’s Bema.

It was the first Investiture in the history of the Office of Graduate Studies. More than 500 students, family, and friends were in attendance.
In his Investiture address, F. Jon Kull, dean of Graduate Studies, commended the students on their achievements and encouraged them to use their expertise to “help shape our world, as champions of the truth that is found in thought, reason, and science.” The class speakers were Justin Richardson, who received a PhD in earth sciences, and Anna Lasala-Goettler, who earned a Master of Arts in comparative literature.
Provost Carolyn Dever delivered closing remarks, acknowledging the support and expertise of the faculty and thanking them for welcoming and mentoring the graduates in their respective academic fields. Dever welcomed the graduates into the “ancient and universal company of scholars,” and talked about the expectations facing them—“that you remain hungry to learn, that you think and approach problems with an open mind, and that you enrich humanity with the gift of knowledge. We have every confidence in your ability to meet and exceed those expectations.”
