Dartmouth’s Hany Farid, a professor of computer science, questions the authenticity of some dramatic photographs from the Vietnam War that were part of an exhibition in France last year, reports The New York Times.
The show was “an unprecedented view of the Vietnam wars told by the virtually unknown photographers,” writes the Times, which said the authenticity of some of the photos has been cast into serious doubt.
Of one photo, Farid wrote in his analysis, “There is no doubt that smoke has been added to the image. This is obvious from a comparison to what appears to be the original image and from an artifact of photo editing: Part of the radio antenna and plant that are in the foreground are obscured from smoke that is in the background. This is obviously not physically possible,” the Times reports.
