"An increasingly pessimistic view of their financial future combined with the increased availability of opioid drugs has created this kind of perfect storm of adverse outcomes," says Dartmouth’s Jonathan Skinner in a Washington Post story about a new study indicating that the death rate is rising for middle-aged white Americans.

Skinner is the James O. Freedman Presidential Professor in Economics, a professor of family and community medicine at the Geisel School of Medicine, and a professor at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice.
