“The more tools you can give people to maintain a good psychological state, the more successful the mission is likely to be,” says former astronaut and Geisel School of Medicine Professor Jay Buckey in a Popular Science magazine story about testing Oculus Rift headsets in the Arctic to find out whether virtual reality could be used on future spaces missions.

Buckey’s team has sent the headsets to a military station in Canada located 500 miles from the North Pole. The Canadian Forces Station Alert is the northernmost permanently inhabited place in the world, according to the magazine.
