Executive Vice President Rick Mills resumes his community town hall series on Wednesday, Jan. 20, with a guest appearance by Matthew Slaughter, the new dean of the Tuck School of Business, followed by an update from Mills on activities at the College and the start of a discussion of efforts to create a more diverse workforce at Dartmouth.

The town hall will begin at noon Wednesday in Spaulding Auditorium at the Hopkins Center for the Arts.

Mills initiated the town hall series in October 2014 with the goal of fostering a regular, open exchange with members of the Dartmouth community about the future of the College, he says.

“I think having Matt Slaughter in to share his vision for Tuck—the opportunities and challenges in the years ahead—is a great way to start the town hall discussions in the new year,” says Mills.

Slaughter assumed his role as the 10th dean of the Tuck School of Business on July 1, 2015, succeeding Paul Danos, who served at the helm of the business school for 20 years. Slaughter, the Earl C. Daum 1924 Professor of International Business, is a scholar of international economics and an expert in globalization. He has held several key leadership roles at Tuck since joining the faculty in 2002.

After Slaughter’s remarks, Mills plans to open an ongoing discussion about the College’s broad commitment to diversity, particularly as it applies to the Dartmouth workforce. In a New Year’s Day message to the Dartmouth community, Provost Carolyn Dever stressed the College’s focus on developing a “diverse, vibrant intellectual community” of faculty, staff, and students.

“We want to open the conversation about people’s ideas for concrete actions we can take to achieve these goals,” Mills says.
