Lee Mun Wah, an internationally renowned Chinese American documentary filmmaker, author, poet, storyteller, educator, community therapist, and diversity trainer, is coming to Dartmouth on Thursday, April 7, to spend the day in dialogue with students, faculty, and members of the community.

In an event sponsored by Dartmouth’s Office of Institutional Diversity and Equity, Lee will make presentations and conduct workshops throughout the day, drawing on his experiences as a counselor in the San Francisco Unified School District and his later career as a master diversity trainer. Lee’s workshops focus on issues pertaining to cross-cultural communication and awareness and conflict mediation.
“It is rare that we have the opportunity to spend our time exploring great minds like the mind of Lee Mun Wah. His life experiences have created a canvas from which we can examine our place in society and how we value other cultures in our society,” says Evelynn Ellis, Dartmouth’s vice president for institutional diversity and equity. “I hope the Dartmouth and Upper Valley communities will take full advantage of his wisdom.
The day’s events will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Hanover Inn with a discussion of the different cultures that make up U.S. society. This event is free and open to the public.
At noon, a workshop for students only is titled “How to Have a Dialogue Across Cultures.” At 2 p.m., another workshop—Diversity Conversations in the Classroom—will be open to faculty and staff only.
At 5:30 p.m., there will be a public screening of Lee’s film, If These Halls Could Talk, which focuses on college students speaking their minds about racism and other diversity-related issues in higher education and beyond. A discussion will follow the screening.
All sessions will be held at the Hanover Inn. Due to space limitations, registration for all the events is required by April 1.
