“Our country’s communal math hatred may seem rather innocuous, but a more critical factor is at stake: We are passing on from generation to generation the phobia for mathematics and with that are priming our children for mathematical anxiety,” says Thayer Professor of Engineering Petra Bonfert-Taylor in an opinion piece she wrote telling adults to stop saying they are bad at math.
The piece is posted on The Answer Sheet, a blog that appears in The Washington Post.
Petra Bonfert-Taylor is a 2016 Dartmouth Public Voices Fellow.
