The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Dartmouth is hosting former U.S. Secretary of Defense William Perry who will speak on nuclear proliferation on July 27 as part of the institute’s summer series, “Global Challenges Confronting the United States.”

Perry has said that growing tensions between the United States and Russia lead him to conclude “the likelihood of a nuclear catastrophe today is greater than it was during the Cold War.” His question-and-answer session on this issue will take place in Spaulding Auditorium at the Hopkins Center for the Arts.

Other speakers for Osher’s 20th annual summer lecture series include retired U.S. Navy Admiral James Stavridis, NATO’s former Supreme Allied Commander for Europe, who will speak on global security and risk Aug. 24; and Chris Inglis, former deputy director of the National Security Agency, speaking July 20 on cyber warfare and cyber defense.

All events for the Osher summer lecture series, which runs from July 13 through Aug. 24, are held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursdays in Spaulding Auditorium.
