College Posts Annual Clery Report Oct. 1

Dartmouth’s 2017 Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, known as the Clery report, will be posted on the Dartmouth Annual Security Report website Oct. 1.

“Promoting a safe and secure campus environment is a College-wide endeavor,” writes Interim Director of Safety and Security Keiselim Montás in a campus-wide message that will be sent out Oct. 1. “This report reflects how the College and our community are working collaboratively to prevent crime and to enhance the overall safety and security of the campus.”

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, also called the Clery Act, is a federal law that requires colleges and universities to annually distribute to all students and employees a report containing descriptions of College policies relating to security and to alcohol and drug use. It also contains statistics on fires in residential buildings and on certain crimes that have occurred on or close to campus, safety information, and available resources for crime victims.

The report must be posted each year by Oct. 1. Faculty, staff, and students receive an email linking to the report. A notice is also sent to the families of current students. The document includes the federally defined campus crime statistics from the past three calendar years, as well as information about crime prevention, campus security and personal safety, fire safety, crime-reporting policies, and other important matters related to security and safety on campus.

“We are committed to providing responsive services to those affected by any crime,” Montás writes, encouraging community members to register their mobile phones with the campus-wide emergency communication system DartAlert, and to download the Dartmouth LiveSafe app.

In addition, emergency contact information in College systems should always be up to date, he said. Students can update information in the “missing person and emergency and family contacts” fields in BannerStudent, a web information site for students, and employees can do so by going to the online directory.
