PETER M. FAHEY, in sport, in work and in life, you exemplify what it means to be a true partner and team player.

A devoted son of Dartmouth and dedicated student-athlete, you earned your degree in chemistry in 1968 before going on to graduate school at the Thayer School of Engineering.  You later attended Harvard Business School, where you became a Baker Scholar, graduating in the top five percent of your class. 

While you began your career as a scientist, you found your true calling as a young associate at Goldman Sachs, one of the world’s preeminent investment banking firms. You rose to partner status in record time by applying your trademark work ethic and philosophy of continual improvement that has come to define your life’s work.

Your affection for your alma mater is surpassed only by your dedication to her. Whether the work is of your choosing or of our asking, you give it 200 percent and inspire others to do the same.  You have nobly served this institution as a Trustee, Thayer Overseer, and President of your 50-year Reunion Class, to name a few, though perhaps your greatest role is that of devoted husband and father of four Dartmouth graduates with whom you’ve shared your Dartmouth pride.

You’ve continued your service to others through your active participation in Goldman Sachs’ philanthropic boards, including “10,000 Women” and "10,000 Small Businesses,” advising and empowering women entrepreneurs and small business owners all over the world.

For your dedication to using every minute of your life to learn, lead and labor for the individuals and institutions that matter to you, Dartmouth is delighted to award you the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
