A year ago this week, the College began a yearlong celebration of its 250th anniversary. Commemorations of the historic milestone included events, programs, and symposia that invited the Dartmouth community of students, alumni, faculty, and friends to honor the school’s past and to engage in envisioning its future.

The greenlighting of monuments around the world bookended the celebrations in January and December. Other highlights included the re-argument of the Dartmouth College Case in March, a community-wide 250th summer celebration, Homecoming’s outsized birthday cake, the football team’s Yankee Stadium victory in November, and closing Charter Day activities in Hanover and Boston on Dec. 13. In addition, the Dartmouth community contributed over 250,000 hours of volunteer service within their own communities as part of the anniversary’s “The Call to Serve” service initiative.
