Statement on Outreach to Maha Hasan Alshawi

Body

HANOVER, N.H. - JULY 20, 2020 - We remain deeply concerned about the health of Maha Hasan Alshawi, and our first priority is her safety.

We have expressed our concern to Maha repeatedly and tried to convince her to change her current course of action, both in direct conversations with her and with her advocates and supporters. We have also sought assistance from public safety agencies. At this point, we reiterate our request that she seek medical attention, provide certification that she has done so, and show that she is not in danger.

If that happens, Dartmouth is prepared to take the extraordinary measure of engaging an external investigator to conduct another review of her allegations, to advance our shared interest in a public and transparent determination of the allegations. Dartmouth will agree to this option with the understanding that Maha will cooperate fully and agree that the investigator’s findings and any subsequent actions be made public.

As we have said repeatedly, we are committed to Maha’s well-being and want to support her return to good health. We call on her community of advocates and supporters to join us in asking Maha to seek medical attention immediately.
