On Friday and Saturday, the Department of Economics and the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding are hosting the 2020 North East Universities Development Consortium (NEUDC) conference, the largest conference on development economics in the world.

Due to the pandemic, the 2020 gathering will be virtual.

“This year, we are saddened to not be able to bring people to campus, but Dartmouth students will still have the opportunity to engage with the 791 researchers from around the world who have registered to attend,” says Eric Edmonds, a professor of economics and one of the conference planners.

The keynote speaker on Friday morning is Penny Goldberg, the Elihu Professor of Economics at Yale University and former chief economist of the World Bank Group. She will share insights about working in economic development during the time of COVID. The event, which runs from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 6, is open to the public. There will be an opportunity for questions after the talk.

The conference is supported by the Dickey Center and its E.M. Skowrup 1937 Fund, the Department of Economics, and the Challenges and Opportunities of Globalization Dartmouth cluster initiative.
