Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health, New Hampshire’s largest private employer and the state’s only academic health-care system, is changing its name to Dartmouth Health, officials announced today.

“Our new Dartmouth Health brand was created to reflect and celebrate the high-quality care we provide across the region, bolstered by world-class teaching and research that combine to make our academic health system one of the nation’s best,” says Joanne M. Conroy ’77, the CEO and president of the Lebanon, N.H.-based health care system.

The new name and brand also reinforce the longstanding ties between the health system, the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, and the Dartmouth community. The Dartmouth name (which is a registered trademark of Trustees of Dartmouth College) will be used under license by Dartmouth Health.

The health system traces its roots to the creation of a medical school at Dartmouth in 1797 and the construction of Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover nearly a century later.

The changes will be phased in over time and include dropping the hyphen in Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC).

Dartmouth Health has more than 13,000 employees and includes DHMC; more than 24 Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinics around the region; the Dartmouth Cancer Center; Dartmouth Health Children’s; Alice Peck Day Memorial Hospital in Lebanon, N.H.; Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, N.H.; New London Hospital in New London, N.H.; Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor, Vt.; and Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire.
