Scott C. Brown has been named dean of the College, Provost David Kotz ’86 announced today. His term will run through June 2025.

Brown was appointed to a two-year term as interim dean of the College in August 2021.

The dean of the College oversees the division of Student Affairs, including Student Support Services, Health and Wellness, Community Life and Inclusivity, Student Life, and Residential Life and the house communities.

“Scott’s commitment to promoting student engagement and success both in and out of the classroom has shone through during his tenure as interim dean,” Kotz says. “I am thrilled that he will continue to apply his incredible energy and experience to benefit the Dartmouth community.”

Brown came to Dartmouth from Northern Arizona University, where he was interim associate vice president and dean of students. He started his academic career at Dartmouth in the early 1990s, when he served as an area director in the Office of Residential Life.

Looking ahead, Brown says he’s delighted at the opportunity to serve as dean.

“I am honored to work with a team of hardworking, thoughtful, and professional staff who supported students during some very trying times,” Brown says. “I’m excited to continue to support students in their transformative Dartmouth experience.”

Brown holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Irvine, a master’s degree in education from Indiana University, Bloomington, and a PhD in college student personnel administration from the University of Maryland.

At the same time Brown was appointed interim dean, Marianne Huger Thomson was appointed interim associate dean of Student Affairs. This summer, Thomson was named associate dean of Student Affairs.
