Dartmouth has received eight Best of District I Awards from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education, including two awards for photo packages by Katie Lenhart, the director of photography in the Office of Communications.
The other CASE awards for Best of District I went to the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine for overall excellence; to Advancement for the workshop Transforming Survey Insights Into Actionable Ideas; two awards for the fundraising initiatives Reimagining Donor Engagement and Stewardship: Data Driven Program Development and campaign work with Dartmouth Answers The Call to Lead: $3.77B and 60% participation; a leadership award for From Silos to Synergy: Reimagining collaboration for engagement and belonging; and a special events award to the Trustee Coffee and Conversation Series.
The photo awards naming the Office of Communications and Lenhart were for her photo series of trips to Mexico involving the Dartmouth Wind Ensemble and the Magnuson Center for Entrepreneurship.
Of the first package, the CASE judges wrote, “This specific gallery showcases the students who traveled to Mexico to learn from social entrepreneurs who have designed business models to address issues they’ve identified in their communities.”
Of the series depicting Dartmouth musicians working with their counterparts in Mexico, the judges wrote that the “gallery highlights the students, faculty, and staff who traveled to Mexico to collaborate with two local bands: Centro de Capacitación de Música de Banda and Banda Sinfónica de la Facultad de Música de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Their performances introduced new compositions by Mexican composers, many commissioned by Dartmouth’s Hopkins Center for the Arts or developed through the Mexican Repertoire Initiative.”
Justin Anderson, senior vice president for communications, says the CASE recognition of Lenhart’s work was well deserved.
“The entries show the expert way Katie uses light, setting, and her subjects to tell a story,” Anderson says. “The student in the grass in the Magnuson gallery, and the three tubas, three trombones, and four trumpet photos in the Wind Ensemble gallery are vivid examples of her art and craftsmanship.”
