Students with eclipse glasses gazing at the sun
We’re very lucky to have talented photo interns at the Office of Communications every year, such as Ben Joel ’27, who delivered this great capture of students watching the solar eclipse in April from the Green.  (Photo by Ben Joel ’27)

Shot of an eclipse
Freelancer Robert Gill was able to accompany a group of Dartmouth students, faculty, and staff north to the Fairbanks Museum & Planetarium in St. Johnsbury, Vt., where he got this moment of total eclipse.  (Photo by Robert Gill)

Aerial of students at wintercarnival
Part of the Green was home to an ice rink last winter, and students took full advantage of this during Winter Carnival. I love the shadow play in this drone photo by Chris Johnson, who is most recognizable for the videos he makes as part of our Media Production Group.  (Photo by Chris Johnson)

Liv Pyrczak performing a mic check
When temperatures just get too cold, we go inside to celebrate creativity with theater. I enjoyed this quiet moment as Assistant Stage Manager Liv Pyrczak ’27 checks a mic preset before the final dress rehearsal for last winter’s Something Funny For Crying Out Loud at the Theater on Currier. (Photo by Katie Lenhart)

Corpse flower "Morphy" blooming
Another place to stay warm in winter is the Life Sciences greenhouse, where last March you could enjoy the heat only with a side of the smell from the titan arum, aka the corpse flower known as Morphy. It was in full bloom, and this photo looks at the fruit inside through a section taken out for research.  (Photo by Katie Lenhart)

Jaime Aranzabal posing in a flowing pink dress
As the snow melts we prepare for student celebrations across campus, such as the drag show Transform, organized last year by House of Lewan co-founder Jaime Aranzabal ’24. (Photo by Katie Lenhart)

Hōkūpaʻa dancing in a Lūʻau
Spring celebrations continued with intern Ben Joel ’27 covering the Hōkūpaʻa Lūʻau, put on yearly by the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander student group to celebrate the growing representation of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities at Dartmouth. (Photo by Ben Joel ’27)

A man raises his hand to grab the attention of a graduate
We also had former student intern Julia Levine ’23 return to help with Commencement coverage. Levine is now working professionally as a photojournalist, and it was wonderful to see Commencement through her eyes.  (Photo by Julia Levine ’23)

Roger Federer on stage
As a lifelong tennis player, photographing eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer deliver his Commencement address in June felt like a dream.  (Photo by Katie Lenhart)

Student from an agroecology class studying grass
Sometimes photographers themselves crept into the frame. Tobin Yates ’27, pictured in an agroecology class at the Organic Farm in July, is another student photographer, currently working as photo intern for Dartmouth Sustainability.   (Photo by Katie Lenhart)

Daniel Jeon working on a lathe
Former College Photographer Eli Burakian ’00, now a freelancer, often uses his 6-foot-2-inch height to get interesting angles, as in this image of Daniel Jeon, Thayer ’26, working on a lathe in the machine shop to create a piece for tensile testing. (Photo by Eli Burakian ’00)

President Sian Beilock sailing
Another Dartmouth alum in our freelancer orbit is Rob Strong ’04, who snapped this spirited image of President Sian Leah Beilock out with the sailing team in early September by their new boathouse on Lake Mascoma. (Photo by Rob Strong ’04)

FYSEP students doing team building exercises
Before the school year starts, students in the First Year Student Enrichment Program arrive on campus early for orientation. I loved their hands in this photo during team-building activities in the Bema with Jay Davis ’90, director of the First-Generation Office. (Photo by Katie Lenhart)

People stand an stare at nature
Another of our talented interns, Beam Lertbunnaphongs ’25, was able to accompany students, staff, and faculty on a trip to the Second College Grant in Clarksville, N.H., where they learned about forestry methods currently in use on the property.  (Photo by Beam Lertbunnaphongs ’25)

Students ascending stair for matriculation
Matriculation heralds the beginning of fall term, and Robert Gill really captured the sense of movement and anticipation as these students ascended the stairs to President Sian Leah Beilock’s office in Parkhurst Hall. (Photo by Robert Gill)

Woman lights candles for Diwali celebration
Not only are we lucky with freelancers and interns, but we find photographers in other parts of Dartmouth, as well. Provost Dave Kotz ’86 has a way of capturing hopeful serenity in his pictures, such as this photo from the Diwali celebration in October.  (Photo by David Kotz ’86)

People admire and speak about an art exhibit
Freelancer Kata Sasvari covered many events for us in 2024, such as this opening for the fall Student Art Exhibit in the Black Family Visual Arts Center. Her photos always catch great expression and emotion. (Photo by Kata Sasvari)

Goats with cute sustainability vests
Sophia Scull ’25 continued her second year interning with the Office of Communications and brought humor to her photos, such as this lovely moment with goats owned by Director of Sustainability Rosi Kerr ’97. They were on campus to promote decarbonization efforts.  (Photo by Sophia Scull ’25)

Students trekking atop Mt. Moosilauke
Sophia Scull ’25 also brings a beautiful geometry to her landscapes, as exhibited in the hills, paths, and sky during this trek to Mount Moosilauke. (Photo by Sophia Scull ’25)

Students take photographs at the homecoming bonfire
Knowing he’s seen many a bonfire at Homecoming, you can always count on Eli Burakian ’00 to look away from the flame for a great photo from the popular event.  (Photo by Eli Burakian ’00)

Woman from the Wind Ensemble playing accordian
I’ve been following the Dartmouth Wind Ensemble and the Hop’s Mexican Repertoire Initiative. From Mexico City to Jordan Hall (the Boston concert hall shown here), it’s been wonderful to see and hear the exciting music emerging from their performances. Above, Abi Pak ’26 was soloist in Onda Tropical, a concerto by Master of Fine Arts in Sonic Practice student Rodrigo Martinez Torres, with Brian Messier conducting. (Photo by Katie Lenhart)

Snow covered Baker Tower behind a tree
As we start another winter term at Dartmouth, I look forward to all the new perspectives and scenes awaiting our collective lenses.  (Photo by Robert Gill)
