Dr. Alewine graduated from Dartmouth College (’98) with majors in Chemistry and Asian Studies. While at Dartmouth she completed an undergraduate thesis in the laboratory of Karen Wetterhahn examining DNA damage caused by carcinogenic chromium, work that refocused her scientific interests from chemistry to oncology. Following a postbaccalaureate fellowship at NCI, Dr. Alewine earned her MD and PhD from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2008. She completed Internal Medicine residency in the Osler Medical Training Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital followed by clinical fellowship in Medical Oncology at the NCI Center for Cancer Research. She joined NCI’s Laboratory of Molecular Biology as an Assistant Clinical Investigator through the support of the Clinical Investigator Development Program in 2014 and became a tenure-track investigator through the NIH Lasker Clinical Scholars Program in 2016. Dr. Alewine’s clinical and laboratory research at NCI has focused exclusively on pancreatic cancer with a specific interest to develop targeted therapies for this disease. She joined the Dartmouth Cancer Center as a researcher and GI Medical Oncologist in June 2025.

Dr. Alewine will be presenting on her clinical trial - "Assessing the clinical safety and anti-tumor efficacy of ProAgio, a rationally designed protein cytotoxin.
