On Thursday, January 15, 2026 the writer Andrew Leland will read from his work in the Sanborn Library as part of the Cleopatra Mathis Poetry and Prose Series at 4:30 pm

Andrew Leland is the author of The Country of the Blind: A Memoir at the End of Sight, which was a finalist for the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in Memoir. It was also named a best book of the year by the New Yorker, the Washington Post, the Atlantic, NPR, and others.

His essays and feature writing have appeared in the New Yorker (in a piece that won the 2023 Linguistic Journalism Award from the Linguistic Society of America), the New York Times Magazine, the Baffler, New York, Art in America, and elsewhere.

He's produced pieces for Radiolab, 99 Percent Invisible, and the New Yorker Radio Hour, and was the host of the Organist, an arts and culture podcast from KCRW and McSweeney's. He's currently a contributing editor to the Believer. He's the 2024-6 Koeppel Fellow in Journalism at Wesleyan University, and a fellow at Wesleyan’s Center for the Humanities.
