Middle Eastern Studies visiting professor and author Kim Ghattas joins us for a conversation on the state of the war and the paths ahead. A Beirut native and resident, Ghattas brings a firsthand perspective and decades of expertise on the region as a journalist and analyst. 


Kim Ghattas is a visiting Lecturer and Scholar-in-Residence in the Middle Eastern Studies Program at Dartmouth College. Ghattas is a Middle East expert, author, and Emmy Award winning journalist. She’s a contributor to The Atlantic magazine and The Financial Times. She is currently visiting professor at Dartmouth College for Spring 2026. She previously reported for the BBC from the Middle East and Washington DC. She is the author of Black Wave, a New York Times 100 notable book of 2020 on the Saudi-Iran rivalry and of The Secretary: A Journey with Hillary Clinton from Beirut to the Heart of American Power, a New York Times best seller. Her next book, The Best Kind of American- Murder, War and America’s Undoing in the Middle East, will be published in October 2026.

Victoria K. Holt, the Norman E. McCulloch Jr. Director of the John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding. Holt joined Dartmouth in September 2021, with a background in public policy, leadership and diplomacy.
