About the Panelists

Carolyn Silverstein ’21 earned her MFA in Creative Writing from Colorado State University and her BA in English Literature and Creative Writing from Dartmouth College. Her writing has appeared in Archipelago, Vol. III, Stonefence Review, the Write Launch, and McNeese Review. Her work has been shortlisted for the Virginia Woolf Award in Short Fiction. A native New Yorker, Carolyn is a certified ski instructor and enjoys spending time with her dog, Gatsby, when she’s not writing.

Allison Hufford ’21 is a graduate of Dartmouth College, where she majored in English literature and minored in environmental studies.  As JRA’s Subsidiary Rights Manager, she oversees the licensing of translation, audio, electronic, book club, and large print rights throughout the world in over fifty languages. She and her team work tirelessly in collaboration with a highly skilled network of foreign agents and scouts to market JRA authors and their work internationally, including in person at the London and Frankfurt book fairs. She is an avid reader with a particular love for character-driven narratives, lyrical writing styles, and anything with a speculative twist.  

Elizabeth Janowski ’21 (she/her) graduated from Dartmouth with a double major in history and film and media studies and served as executive editor of The Dartmouth. She received an M.S. in journalism from Columbia University in 2022. Elizabeth is an assistant editor at Viking Penguin, where she has worked with authors including Amor Towles, Tana French, Alejandro Varela, Ruth Ozeki, Nathaniel Philbrick, and Maggie Stiefvater. Originally from Milwaukee, Elizabeth lives in New York City. 

About the Moderator

Alexander Chee is the best-selling author of the novels The Queen of the Night and Edinburgh, and the essay collection How to Write an Autobiographical Novel. He is a contributing editor at The New Republic, and an editor at large at The Virginia Quarterly Review. He is the recipient of a 2021 Guggenheim Fellowship and a 2021 United States Artists Fellowship, and awards and fellowships from the Whiting Foundation and the NEA, and residency fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, the VCCA, Civitella Ranieri and Amtrak. He is a professor of English and Creative Writing at Dartmouth College and the chair of the Dartmouth Literary Arts Bridge.
