On a deserted beach, seven lives collide in the uneasy calm before a tsunami. As desire, memory, and buried truths rise to the surface, the boundaries between human and animal, land and sea, oppressor and oppressed begin to dissolve.
Darkly comic, visceral, and politically charged, The Language of the Mermaids is a fable about bodies caught between worlds, and what happens when everything we have tried to bury, both collectively and individually, comes rushing back.
