East Wheelock

With the reopening of Zimmerman Hall and a transformed Brace Commons social center in fall 2024, which followed the reopening of Andres Hall in fall 2023 and Morton Hall in 2017, the renewal of East Wheelock House is complete.  

The renovations have added a total of 41 beds. All the buildings are connected to the heating and air conditioning system to the campus’ low-temperature hot water distribution system. Andres, Zimmerman, and Brace meet the standards for LEED Gold certification for sustainability, health, and safety.

Zimmerman Hall

• Single and double bedrooms with furniture made from wood harvested from the Second College Grant
• Single-user bathrooms
• Laundry facilities

• Lounge and study areas on each floor

Brace Commons

• Flexible gathering and study spaces
• Community kitchen
• Welcoming entrance with landscaped, accessible courtyard
• Dynamic rooftop plaza with space for outdoor performances and events

South House: Fayerweather Hall Reopens

The renovation and expansion, completed in summer 2026, has connected the three original 120-year-old Neo-Georgian residences under one roof. The project was funded by gifts from Karen and Jim Frank ’65, the Manton Foundation, and an anonymous family.

• Adds a new social center for South House, elevators, and a net of 35 new beds
• Features single-user bathrooms, kitchenettes, common study and social rooms, and private spaces for telehealth appointments or job interviews
• Connected heating and air conditioning to Dartmouth’s new and efficient low-temperature hot water distribution system
• New outdoor courtyard located between Fayerweather and Dartmouth Hall 
• Reading room, full kitchen, wellness room, music practice rooms, study rooms, bicycle storage, laundry

The Native American House

Work began this summer on a renovation and expansion of 35 North Main St. on the Native American House, a living learning community that has served as a crucial social and cultural hub for Native American and Indigenous students since 1995.

• Adds new gathering spaces, bedrooms, and bathrooms
• Improves efficiency by connecting heating and air conditioning to Dartmouth’s new low-temperature hot water distribution system
• Construction is on track to be finished in summer 2027

Sachem Village

For graduate and professional school students, work has begun to upgrade 12 units at Sachem Village in Lebanon, N.H.

• Updated kitchens and bathrooms
• In-unit laundry facilities
• New sprinkler systems
• Electric heat pumps for heating and air conditioning
• Finished units will be available to rent in May 2027

Next up: Mass Row

In April 2026, the Board of Trustees approved moving forward with the design phase for renewing Massachusetts Row, with a projected budget of $123 million. Construction begins in summer 2027.
