Matt Slaughter, associate dean at Tuck School of Business, recently appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box to discuss the European debt deal.

The deal, he said, reminds him of the kind of work he sometimes receives from students who have pulled all-nighters.

“Over the years,” he said, “I’ve learned that when students pull an all-nighter … the product that they hand in tends to fall a little bit short of the mark.”

Continuing with the academic theme, Slaughter acknowledged that the European leaders did at least turn in their assignment, metaphorically speaking.

“I applaud the policy aspirations that were voiced by European leaders, but there remains a lot of uncertainty,” he said.

Slaughter also discussed the U.S. stock market and bank regulation with the Squawk Box team.
