Worst CEOs of 2011: Netflix’s Reed Hastings Tops Tuck Prof’s List (The Daily Ticker)

Sydney Finkelstein, the Steven Roth Professor of Management at Tuck, has released his 2011 listing of the worst CEOs. Finkelstein appeared on The Daily Ticker to discuss his choices.

Reed Hastings of Netflix topped his list, which also included Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie of Research in Motion and Leo Apotheker, former CEO of H-P.

“Poor Reed Hastings. He followed almost textbook strategy,” when he decided to split Netflix into two segments, Finkelstein said.

“But he made a couple of mistakes along the way. … I don’t think there was any preparation. And then he raised the prices like crazy at the same time.”
