10 Colleges With the Highest Freshman Retention Rates (U.S. News & World Report)

With 97.8 percent of first-year students returning to campus the following year, Dartmouth has the nation’s fourth-highest freshman retention rate, and is tied with the University of Pennsylvania for ninth place, on the U.S. News and World Report “Freshman Retention Rates” list.

The Freshman Retention Rates ranking is one of a number of U.S. News “Short Lists” published using data compiled for the publication’s annual “Best Colleges” rankings released in September.

Dartmouth was also ranked in U.S. News “Campus Housing” Short List, which tracks schools with the highest percentage of undergraduate students living on campus. The list notes that 86 percent of Dartmouth students live on campus, earning Dartmouth the No. 7 spot on the list.
