Friday, April 19, 2:15 p.m.: Dartmouth officials are monitoring travel to and from the city of Boston in light of law enforcement’s lockdown of the city following the Boston Marathon bombings.

The ongoing events pose no security threat on the Dartmouth campus.

The College is advising people who travel to and from the campus to be aware of possible travel interruptions in the wake of the lockdown, which covers the entire city of Boston and a number of surrounding communities.

Several Dartmouth events, including athletics, the ongoing Admissions Dimensions program for high school students who have been accepted at Dartmouth, and the Tuck School of Business Admitted Students Weekend, are proceeding as scheduled.

Dartmouth administrators will continue to monitor how related Boston travel may be affected.

  • Two Dartmouth sports teams have events scheduled for the Boston area this weekend, but all Dartmouth athletes are still on Dartmouth’s campus and the teams are awaiting word on whether their events will be canceled.
Men’s heavyweight crew has races scheduled at Boston University on Saturday and the women’s sailing team is scheduled to attend the Women’s New England Championship sailing regatta at Tufts University, also on Saturday. The teams will not depart Hanover without an all-clear from the individual colleges.

Check the Dartmouth Athletics website for further information.

  • The Admissions Office is developing contingency plans for Dimensions visitors from the Boston area, and for anyone who may need to travel home via Boston.
