In an opinion piece published by U.S. News & World Report, Karin Thorburn, a visiting professor of finance at the Tuck School of Business, writes that Twitter and other U.S. corporations need to include some women, or more women, on their governing boards. A growing body of evidence, she writes, “points to the benefits of gender-balanced boards.”

And yet the number of women on U.S. corporate boards remains low, she says. “Only 12 percent of Russell 3000 directors are female and one-third of the boards are all male. … The important question now is how we can make shareholders and legislators understand the benefits of gender diversity and a critical mass of women on corporate boards.”
