Thirty-two scholars have joined the Dartmouth faculty this academic year, an accomplished group of teachers and researchers dedicated to a range of disciplines, including religion, African and African-American studies, health policy and clinical practice, geography, and psychological and brain sciences.
Of that group, 17 join the Faculty of Arts & Sciences and 15 will be working in the graduate schools of the Tuck School of Business, Geisel School of Medicine, and Thayer School of Engineering and with The Dartmouth Institute for Health Care Policy & Clinical Practice.
“Dartmouth is enriched by this remarkable cohort of teachers and scholars,” says Michael Mastanduno, dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences. “These men and women joining the ranks of the College faculty are not only leaders in their fields of research, but they have the passion for teaching that affirms Dartmouth’s commitment as a leader in undergraduate education.”
These new faculty members share an enthusiasm for their work and for the opportunity to teach and collaborate in the Dartmouth community.
“Dartmouth is a rich, supportive, and inspirational place. I think it is very telling that I can’t wait to get to work each day,” says Jane Hill, an associate professor of engineering at Thayer.
Many speak about the concepts and questions that attracted them to their fields and the desire to draw out these ideas in the classroom.
“I am interested in asking how markets are socially, culturally, and politically constituted. History is a great way to understand how this works,” says Stefan Link, an assistant professor of history.
Associate Professor of Mathematics John Voight puts it this way: “The profound challenge of mathematics is matched by its beauty and elegance. Mathematics is expressive and exacting, imaginative and rigorous.”
