Tuck Students Serve Up Food, Lessons in Business (Valley News)

The Box, a food truck started by two students at the Tuck School of Business, began serving food on campus a few weeks ago, reports the Valley News. The startup venture, which began as part of a class project for founders Eric Winn, Tuck ’14, and Mike Parshley, Tuck ’14, serves Mediterranean-style cuisine while also providing entrepreneurial and business experience for Dartmouth undergraduates, the article notes.

“With the help from Tuck students, undergraduates are getting the hands-on experience of running a real business, and we’re planning for this project to be ongoing after we leave,” Winn tells the newspaper. “Although we want to make money and to give our investors a return on their money, our ultimate goal is to make Dartmouth a better place.”

Steven Kahl, an associated professor of business administration at Tuck, worked with Winn and Parshley on the project. “They’ve had the experience of raising money and financing as well as the experience of owning a machine (the truck) and keeping it operating,” he tells the Valley News. “They’re also learning about food and where it comes from, and they’re doing something that everybody loves—producing great food.”
