President Philip J. Hanlon ’77 started the year with some big news—announcing plans to step down in June 2023 after 10 years leading Dartmouth. He’ll be succeeded then by Barnard College President Sian Leah Beilock, the first woman to be elected president of Dartmouth.

In the meantime, President Hanlon worked on several initiatives remaining on his agenda, led the repatriation of the Rev. Samson Occom’s papers to his Mohegan homeland, and spoke at commencement about overcoming obstacles and asking the right questions.

As this video recap shows, there was inquiry throughout campus in 2022, as students, faculty, and staff made Dartmouth an even stronger institution and community, celebrated key milestones with alumni, and set the stage for more good work ahead.
