Thirty-eight members of the faculty from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Geisel School of Medicine, Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies, Thayer School of Engineering, and Tuck School of Business have been honored for their exceptional accomplishments in teaching and mentoring, research, and other service to Dartmouth.

“The faculty recognized this year, from across the university, are models of the kind of commitment to students and dedication to scholarship that this institution always seeks to foster,” says Provost David Kotz ’86. “Their passion for their work has a profound impact on their students, their colleagues, their fields of study, and on Dartmouth.”

Arts and Sciences

Frank J. Guarini Award for Extraordinary Contribution to Off-Campus Programs

Awarded to a faculty member who has made significant efforts to advance the mission of Dartmouth’s international and domestic off-campus study programs for undergraduates.

Sienna Craig, the Orvil Dryfoos Professorship in Public Affairs and professor of anthropology

Jerome Goldstein Award for Distinguished Teaching

Voted on by the undergraduate senior class (’23s).

Miles Blencowe, the Eleanor and A. Kelvin Smith Distinguished Professor in Physics

John M. Manley Huntington Award for Newly Tenured Faculty

Awarded to recently tenured faculty members who have an outstanding record of teaching and research.

Miya Qiong Xie, associate professor of Chinese and comparative East Asian literature

Jeremy Ferwerda, associate professor of government

John M. Manley Huntington Award for Newly Promoted Faculty

Awarded to faculty members recently promoted to full professor who have outstanding teaching and research records.

Chandrasekhar Ramanathan, professor of physics and astronomy

Robert A. Fish 1918 Memorial Prize

Awarded to a newly retired faculty member to commemorate a career of contributions to undergraduate teaching.

Karen E. Wetterhahn Memorial Award for Distinguished Creative or Scholarly Achievement

Awarded to newly tenured faculty members with outstanding scholarship.

Caitlin Hicks Pries, associate professor of biological sciences

Dean of the Faculty Teaching Award

Awarded to a nontenured and nontenure track faculty in recognition of outstanding contributions to Dartmouth and career distinction.

Awarded to a member of the faculty who, in the opinion of the Board of Trustees, is an outstanding teacher of undergraduates.

Dean of Faculty Award for Exceptional Service

Awarded to a member of the faculty who has contributed significantly to the life of Dartmouth through their extraordinary commitment to service.

Susan Ackerman, the Preston H. Kelsey Professor of Religion and professor of women’s, gender, and sexuality studies

Rebecca Biron, professor of Spanish and Portuguese and comparative literature and director of the Leslie Center for the Humanities

Everett Koop, MD, Courage Award, Faculty Recipient

Honoring a faculty member whose courage in serving the public good continues the spirit of C. Everett Koop ’37, the former surgeon general.

Frances Lim-Liberty, assistant professor of pediatrics and assistant professor of medical education

The Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award, Faculty Recipient, presented by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation

Given to a faculty member in recognition of their compassion, empathy, respect, and cultural sensitivity in the delivery of care to patients and their families while exhibiting the attributes of a scientifically excellent physician.

Dartmouth-Mosenthal Surgical Society Fellow

Given to faculty exemplifying William T. Mosenthal’s responsibility for the welfare of patients, scientific curiosity, passion for teaching, commitment to lifelong learning, and devotion to Dartmouth.

Thomas P. Almy Housestaff Teaching Award

Honoring the member of the house staff selected by students to be most distinguished for maintaining a commitment to medical student education and serving as an intellectual and ethical role model.
