CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta will serve as moderator at next month’s panel discussion on mental health with the current and former U.S. surgeons general, President Sian Leah Beilock announced today.
The Sept. 28 event at Dartmouth is bringing together all living U.S. surgeons general in an effort to seek solutions to the mental health crisis and to support wellness.
“I’m honored to moderate this discussion on one of our country’s most pressing national health problems,” Gupta says. “I hope convening the surgeons general will help people understand how serious an issue this is, while also giving these health experts a chance to offer some practical steps we can take to help young people and others who are struggling.”
“Dr. Sanjay Gupta is widely known and trusted for his reporting on health care and his support of wellness. His willingness to moderate the discussion will assist all of us as we seek to identify and address root causes of the mental health crisis,” President Beilock says.
Gupta is a practicing neurosurgeon and an associate professor at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, and was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2019.
In addition to being a multiple Emmy Award winner, he is the author of four best-selling books: Chasing Life; Cheating Death; Monday Mornings; and Keep Sharp: Building a Better Brain At Any Age.
Gupta has championed mental and physical wellness extensively through his shows, podcast series, and books on building and maintaining cognitive fitness and living longer, healthier lives.
