Students carried out a Dartmouth Outing Club tradition in August, hiking up Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast, with a canoe so they could paddle around Lake of the Clouds.

Why portage for four hours up a steep trail to get in a few minutes of paddling? It’s more than a “because it’s there” answer.

“Dartmouth is such an academically rigorous school that it is important to take breaks, and it’s in those breaks that you make the most memories,” says Nina Kieserman ’28, who helped lead the trip.
