About the Panelists

Susan Barba ’97 is the author of two poetry collections, Fair Sun and geode, and the editor of American Wildflowers: A Literary Field Guide, winner of the 2023 American Horticultural Society Book Award. Her poems and prose have appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The New York Review of Books, Poetry, The New Republic, PN Review, and elsewhere. She earned her doctorate in comparative literature from Harvard University and is still involved in academia through teaching and service. She has worked in publishing for twenty years and is currently a senior editor for New York Review Books. She lives outside of Boston with her family.

Christie Henry ’91 is Director of Princeton University Press, and one of three Dartmouth geography majors working at PUP. During her time at PUP, she has launched an audio book program, a strategic initiative in equity, belonging and inclusion, a client representation program in China, a creative media laboratory, and in 2025 acquired the independent nonprofit Island Press. She has been part of the independent nonprofit publishing world for over 30 years and is actively involved in the publishing community, including mentoring, Board service, global collaborations, and teaching. When not traveling, she resides in Princeton with her spouse (D ’90), two adult kids, and two bulldogs.

Samantha Schnee ’92 is the founding editor of Words Without Borders, which has published 4,400 writers from 139 countries since the online magazine launched in 2003. As a translator from Spanish, she is the recipient of a 2023 National Endowment of the Arts Literature Fellowship to translate eminent Mexican author Carmen Boullosa’s novel El complot de los románticos as well as a 2024 Berlin Prize from the American Academy in Berlin to translate Irati Elorrieta’s award-winning debut novel, Luces de invierno, which won the 2025 Sundial House Prize and will be published by Columbia University Press as Winter Lights in 2027.

About the Moderator

Vievee Francis is the author of five books of poetry: Blue-Tail Fly (2007), Horse in the Dark (2010), Forest Primeval (2016), The Shared World (2023), and the forthcoming Cleaning the Houses of the Dead. Born in West Texas and raised in Metropolitan Detroit, Francis has received numerous awards and recognition for her work including a Guggenheim Fellowship (2024), a Vermont Book Award (2023), the Aiken Taylor Award for Modern American Poetry (2021), the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award (2017), and the Hurston Wright Legacy Award (2016). Francis, along with composer Jonathan Berger and artist Enrico Riley, wrote the libretto for the transdisciplinary opera The Ritual of Breath which premiered in 2022. She has served as an Associate Editor for Callaloo and currently holds the Burlington Northern Foundation Professorship in Creative Writing at Dartmouth College.
